COACHING FOR COMMITTED RUNNERS
ABOUT improve your run
Improve Your Run has been set up to provide coaching for runners who wish to improve their fitness, running technique or times. I offer coaching for distances from 2K up to the Marathon but I specialise in the 5K (Parkrun) distance.
For those who do not wish to pay for 1-2-1 (in person) coaching or do not live in Greater Manchester, go to More - Other Options from the top menu to see further options available.

Follow me on Social Media for regular posts and examples of coaching that I do each week. I also regularly post articles in the blog section of this site.
the coach
I'm Greg and the Coach at Improve Your Run. I have a Degree in Sport Science with Coaching, and achieved the LIRF & CIRF qualification through UK Athletics. I am a club runner who takes part in races like the 800m on the track, right up to the Marathon on the road.

Whilst I coach a variety of distances, I specialise in the 5K/Parkrun distance having completed nearly 100 Parkruns myself, with 25 completed between 18-19 minutes and a Personal Best (PB) of 17:40.

From my own experience, I know how satisfying it is to achieve a PB, and also that feeling of being fit as a runner. I love to coach runners to improve them so that they can feel that satsifaction of running better, and go on to achieve a PB in an event that they are targeting. I can also coach to improve running technique.

FAQ
Q1: Why would I benefit from a Running Coach and why should I choose you to coach me? A: As a Qualified Running Coach (CIRF) through England Athletics I can offer you valuable advice and specific high quality coaching to help you improve as a runner. I have vast experience running myself, having competed in many track races, road race events and Parkruns over the last 10 years. Not only can I help you improve your running times, I can also offer other advice related to the mental aspect of running as well as running technique.
Q2: Do you have any examples of improving other Runners? A: Yes, some examples include Corrina who I coached to be able to run a 10K for the first time ever, improving her stamina and beating her target by 5 mins. During her 12 week plan, she also achieved 2 Parkrun PBs. I helped Chris to get his Parkrun time down from 26:13 to 23:51 within 10 weeks. Matt improved his 2K time by 37 secs in just 6 weeks of training with me and Stephen was able to get fitter and improve his stamina during his Football Season, which was noticed by his teammates in matches.
Q3: I'm new to running, can you help me improve or do you only coach those who are actively running already? A: I am committed to helping any runner get better. The 2 main things that I like to see from a client is commitment to the training that I set, and turning up consistently. If you do that, then I am sure I can make you a better runner, regardless of your current fitness level or ability. The training I set is always tailored to the individual and I am open to discussing any concerns if you are an inexperienced runner at present.
Q4: How long do 1-2-1 or group sessions last? A: All of my training sessions will include a warm up, cool down and a main training effort. In total the whole sessions can last anywhere from 35-55 minutes, it just depends what the focus is for that day. For less experienced or less fit runners, I don't see the point in dragging out a session to close to an hour for the sake of it, as the volume that I would have to set would be too high for their current fitness level/experience.
Q5: If I am interested in a more affordable option than paying for a 1-2-1 coaching session or a paid plan, is there anything else available? A: Yes, if you look at my "Other Options" from the More Heading at the top of the page, I offer "solo" plans which are considerably cheaper as they do not include in person coaching with me. They do include all the other benefits though, like whatsapp support. Also, there are small group sessions which bring the cost down if you have friends or family you would like to train alongside. Group Sessions can also be found on the Other Options page.
Q6: Do you only offer running coaching in the Greater Manchester area? A: Whilst I do stick to the Greater Manchester (GM) area in general, if we are able to work out a time for a session that suits us both, you are within an hours drive, and you are willing to cover my petrol costs to travel then I am willing to coach outside of GM. I have recently been coaching a client in North Liverpool for example.
Q7: What if I live nowhere near Greater Manchester, is there still anything you can offer me to help me improve at running? A: My "Other Options" page has "solo" plans on offer. You can get everything that I offer in my usual plans except for the in person 1-2-1 coaching. This includes whatsapp support, as well as free weekly content that I post on my Social Media and Website (I regularly add blog posts).
Q8: I have not found the answer to what I wanted to know. What should I do? A: If you have not found the information you were looking for, then please feel free to contact me using my form (see the contact button in Footer) and I will get back to you at my earliest opportunity.
