CRICHTON COURSE INFO AND REVIEW
NOTE: I wrote this review in 2019 so certain bits of information may not be accurate in relation to the current event at this location.
This Parkrun is located in Dumfries in Scotland and is one of the nicest I have done so far. The route takes you round “The Crichton” which contains gardens and a Memorial Church.
The final part of the run is up an incline, which makes the finish quite difficult.
Overall I’d personally say this was a medium difficulty Parkrun as there were 3 inclines which I do find tough but there were no major hills and it depends what type of course you are used to as my usual park run is flat.
MY PARKRUN ON THE DAY
I was up in Scotland with my family and noticed this Parkrun was in a convenient location on the way up to Glencoe. We stayed in the nearby Holiday Inn located on the grounds so I only had 100 yards or so to the start line. Given this was a small event of around 100 I was hoping for a top 3 place but with me finding hills a challenge, I struggled in the middle part of the race, as well as in the final km, so ended in 5th. I also run lower mileage during the summer so my 5K fitness is always a bit weaker by then so the hills had me beaten!
As with most of the Parkruns I seem to do, my splits varied a lot, with me going out fast on the 1st km, and slowing down a fair bit in the 3rd km. I don’t usually run the last km the slowest but that was due to the finish being up an incline (you can see the elevation was 20m for the final km) and I felt really tired by this point.
Like with the run I did in Limavady in Northern Ireland, this Parkrun also had a nice friendly atmosphere with it being a smaller one. I’d definitely recommend it due to the nice location too. The winning male time was 18:45 and the fastest female time was 21:50.
