COURSE INFO & REVIEW
This Parkrun is located at Fletcher Moss Park in Didsbury. To my knowledge, parking is not very easy nearby, and I decided to park on Dene Road and then jog to the start, which was a 5-10 min jog.
The course has 2 main loops and then to finish you take a different route of around 1km back to the start. The start point was near Stenner Lane, down the hill from the Church of St James.
This was medium difficulty compared to others I’ve done because it was a sort of trail run and did have a couple of inclines, but nothing major.
MY RUN ON THE DAY
When I was at the start line I noticed that no one else was wearing Nike Vaporflys which is rare compared to other Park Runs I’ve done so that made me think I’d finish high up. I assume this was partly due to the muddy ground too, so others may have been wearing more appropriate running trainers for the type of course.

When I set off, I was quickly in to 2nd position and then I felt that I could push on in to 1st position. Since I’ve never won a parkrun, it gave me extra motivation to push a bit harder. I was aiming for below 19 mins and realised if I got that time I stood a good chance of finishing 1st.
I quite quickly got a decent lead at the front and from that point on, I just made sure I ran the correct pace to finish comfortably under 19 mins. My finishing time was 18:40 and it was my first win so that was a great feeling!

I had realised though, that the main reason why I came first in this race was due to a number of sub 18 & sub 19 min runners not taking part, as I think the Manchester Area League Cross Country being on the same day will have taken away a number of the faster runners from local clubs.
In the future I am setting my sights on winning at Heaton Park or Stretford, as that would be a huge achievement for me due to the standard there and number competing.
The winning male time was 18:40 and the fastest female time was 21:42. In total there was 331 runners who finished the course.
