PARKRUN REVIEW: LIMAVADY, NORTHERN IRELAND

LIMAVADY COURSE INFO AND REVIEW

NOTE: I wrote this review in 2019 so certain bits of information may not be accurate in relation to the current event at this location.

Limavady Parkrun Route Map

This Park Run is located in Limavady, Northern Ireland. Parking is available at Roe Valley Leisure Centre, and runners can head there after the run for tea, coffee and other refreshments. The start time is 9:30am and the route is 3 and a half laps round a small park.

There are a few short uphill and downhill sections but nothing too big. However, the final half a lap is downhill so that provides an opportunity for a strong finish. With only 53 runners, it was quite a small event but it had a strong community feel to it and we were made to feel welcome by the locals.

The fastest male time was 17:05 and female time was 18:04, although both of them were club athletes.

MY PARKRUN ON THE DAY

I was over in Northern Ireland & Rep of Ireland for a short break and we flew in to Belfast, landing after 7am. As I was on the trip with some other athletes from my club we decided to find a Park Run, which we found out starts 30 mins later than the ones in England which meant we had time to get there for the start. Despite being the end of May, the weather wasn’t great and was light rain, but fortunately for us we’re well used to that being from Manchester!

Runners after Limavady Parkrun

Since I hadn’t done this park run before, I was glad to find out it was a repeated route with 3 laps and then a downhill to finish so it made it easier to judge. I started off quick as that is my preferred way to run 5K at the moment and then I managed to pick up the pace again for the final km which had the downhill.

I finished in 18:45 which was a PB at the time and my highest position (4th), although that was due to it being a smaller field than the event I usually run at. I was also happy that this was a full 5K Park Run registered on my Garmin watch as the one I usually do at Stretford comes out around 4.9K, so this was the first time I had been able to register a legitimate 5K under 19 minutes.
