COURSE INFO & REVIEW
This Parkrun is located at Pennington Flash Country Park in Leigh. There is a car park there but according to the Parkrun page it costs £2.50 for parking. I parked further away and jogged about a mile and a half over to the start.
The course starts off with a 400m stretch before you do 3 laps of the same route, then end with the 400m you did originally.
This was a tough course compared to others I have done because there are uphill sections and in bad weather it can be slippy under foot. There had been awful weather around the time I did it with it being in December. It does not seem to be a course that gives you the best chance of a PB.
MY RUN ON THE DAY
Picture of me below from Pennington Flash Parkrun Page
With this being a smaller parkrun (only 66 people took part), I was in with a chance of my 2nd victory at Parkrun within a month after surprisingly winning Fletcher Moss Parkrun in Didsbury in November. I was leading from early on but after the first lap loop I ended up misjudging the route and ran back towards the start instead of starting the 2nd lap loop! This was about 500m extra and meant that I finished in 3rd place in the end.
I think the Marshalls could have pointed out the route better (it was my first time doing this parkrun) but I should have probably paid more attention after doing the first lap!
The extra 500m probably cost me around 2 minutes so with me ending in 21:57 I would have just about done it in sub 20 minutes. As I mentioned, this is a tough course and it had been raining a lot so it's not a course I expected to do quickly anyway.
The winning male time was 20:48 and the quickest female ran it in 24:42. You can see below in the Splits Table, the extra distance I ran, as I ran 5.48km instead of the usual 5km.
